Religious Thought 146

Better indeed is knowledge than mechanical practice (of religious ritual). Better than knowledge is meditation. But better still is surrender of attachment to results (of one's actions), because there follows immediate peace.
- Bhagavad Gita 12:12

Everywhere, truly, those of integrity stand apart. They, the good, don't chatter in hopes of favor or gains. When touched now by pleasure, now pain, the wise give no sign of high or low.
- Dhammapada, 6, translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu.

If you have no eyes, do not walk blindly; take a staff in your hand. If you have no staff of insight, do not walk without a guide.
- Rumi

Atheism turns out to be too simple. If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that is has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark.
- C.S. Lewis

Three sins none can escape on any day: sinful thoughts, the presumption that God must answer our prayers, and dust of slander.
- Babylonian Talmud, Baba Bathra
